50 More Prayers to Share

#51

Dear Lord,

Please give me patience with others. Help me to stop and think before I speak or act when others do not respond as I would want them to. Remind me that we are made differently and one's actions and reactions are not the same as mine and not for me to judge or eve$5n agree, but to come along side in patience. Help my reactions to come slowly, with thought and love and to help to promote peace. Amen.

Dear Lord,

I know my physical body needs more fruit. Help me to include in my diet things that nourish my body daily. Likewise, help me to feed my mind and soul with your Word so that my heart will be filled with the fruit of the Spirit.  Amen.

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. "

Dear Lord,

As the sun shone down on me yesterday, it cast a shadow on the ground of all my actions, some were good and some were not so good. I could even distort my shadow to look like something I was not. When the sun went down, my shadow disappeared and likewise, you forgave me of my imperfections. They are gone and forgotten. As the sun rises on a new day, may my shadow be a good representation of how you want me to live. Thank you for the new start every day.

Amen

Lord,

At times life's trials can weigh heavily on us. They carry us down and drag our steps and even lead us astray to the alley ways of depression, anger and other dark paths. Sometimes seeking your light in the tunnel can only be seen by squinting. But you are there. You can lighten our burdens.

Thank you for lightening our loads daily.

Amen

Dear Lord,

I know Satan is alive here on earth with "workers" in the field. At times it seems they are working overtime. But I also know that you are bigger and the great protector. You will save us from his traps and have given us so much more with the price of your life. Thank you for your protection and promises.

Amen.

Dear Lord,

Help me to speak from my soul. Sometimes I may not always think before speaking. Help my words to come from my heart and may they fall gently on ears, not like clanging bells or cymbals. Lord, if silence is better, help me to hold my tongue. Give me discernment and help my words be pleasing to you.

Amen,

Dear Lord,

Thank you for Hebrews 11 and your words on faithful people. As I read name after name, Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Sarah, Moses, Isaac, Joseph and more, what great examples of faith in action were all these people. Thank you for these people who physically and mentally showed us how to live a path of faith through their testimonies. Help us to follow similar paths having a faith like theirs knowing your faithfulness to us in your promises even when we can't see them, help us to feel them in our hearts. Amen.

Lord, help me to be reminded today to be thankful in all things. You have blessed me so much with family, friends and life itself. I thank you for my material things that you have temporarily given me here on earth for my comfort and enjoyment. Don't let me forget where these blessing come from. It is harder, Lord, but I thank you for the difficulties and unhappy times we also live through with the deceiver on earth, and, although they can be painful, that through them, we may grow and learn. Help me to listen to you in all times and in all times be thankful. Amen

Lord as we get older, it is hard and discouraging to realize we cannot do everything that we could do before. We also come to the realization that some dreams or goals are now out of reach. Time goes so quickly and yet, our days are a blink of an eye to you and all will be changed for us in eternity. For now, help me to accept this season of life and recognize the blessings it has. Thank you for this earthly journey. Amen.

Dear Lord,

Help me to discern the truth in this world today. There is so much information out there about every little thing. I am constantly learning how to do things in a better way, and I love to learn, but I know there is a lot of misinformation or contradictory thoughts out there too. Help me to have the same desire to continually learn from you and to seek your word for truth and guidance. Amen.

Lord, you heard us discussing about the dishes this morning. It's hard to know sometimes at first glance if the dishes are clean or dirty in the dishwasher. You reminded me that for others, it is sometimes hard for them to tell by looking at us the condition of our hearts. Help me to be like the song, "They will know we are Christians by our love." You know my heat, Lord, and my impatience with those who are hard of hearing and refuse to help themselves by getting hearing aids. At times I feel like they are prideful making everyone bow down to them and making everyone have to yell to be heard. At other times, I pity them for missing out on so much. However, don't I need hearing aids at times too? I imagine there are times when you shake your head because I don't hear you. When was the last time I studied your word so you could teach me?  How often do I pray with listening ears and heart to hear to what you are saying to me. Help me Lord today to not be hard of hearing, to recognize your voice by using the "hearing aids" you have provided for me. Thank you for your patience with me. Amen.

Dear Lord, you know that I can be directionally challenged when it comes to going places. Although I can proudly say I can read a map, I am very grateful for the maps on my phone now that help me to get places. They even help me around detours or traffic jams which would have made me stop to try and figure out an alternative route on my paper map. But life is more like the paper map. I have to figure things out on my own and I am not warned of detours. When I encounter one, I have to refer back to my map, my God, who directs me, to decipher the best route on my journey.

Lord, keep me on the right path, be with me as I go around detours and help me to avoid accidents. Please continue to show me the way. Thank you. Amen.

Lord, As we enter holy week, thank you for the accounts of your triumphal entry into Jerusalem. The palm leaves represent victory. Such rejoicing and celebrating, yet no one knew how quickly things would change in a few days. Some like to turn their palm branches into crosses. How appropriate the victory they represented during the entry and then as a cross, still represented victory over death. Thank you for the symbol of the palms.

Dear Lord,

As I continue to reflect on your last week on earth in physical body, I think about the Mount of Olives. I imagine it was your favorite spot, overlooking the city, but also closer to heaven. I picture a beautiful, quiet spot to sit and pray and think. You also preached from there. I imagine it was special to you. I thank you for the special spots you have given me. The ocean would be my favorite spot but I can find quiet and peace in so many places you have provided for us. I thank you for where I live and when we seek, we can find that you have given each of us our own Mount of Olives. I pray for others to find their own Mount of Olives. Give them a place of peace, even if it's a spot near a window in their home or wherever their heart can listen for you. Thank you. Amen.

"He went out and made his was as usual to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him. When he reached the place, he told them, "Pray that you may not fall into temptation." Then he withdrew from them, about a stone's throw, knelt down and began to pray."

Lord, on this day of holy week, what stands out to me, is that Judas initiated his betrayal. No one approached him (except Satan). He chose this route. He suffered because of it too. There are those in our world who do seek to harm others, so many are abused, murdered or suffer at the hands of others. We cannot fathom their thoughts or ways, but can only pray for them. Please change the wicked hearts that seek harm. Heal the minds of the evil thoughts. Stop the hands of violence. Today, Lord, I pray for peace.

"Turn away from evil and do good, seek peace and pursue it."

As I reflect upon the day before your crucifixion, Lord, we remember not only the Last Supper, but that you washed the feet of the disciples, including Judas when both he and you knew he was going to betray you. It must have ached your heart to know this disciple which spent three years with you, was overcome with evil intent toward you, a wolf in sheep's clothing. May we beware of such "wolfs" but let us also, like you, try to show compassion for them. You gave one last commandment to your disciples to love one another as you loved them. No greater love is there, than to give your life for others. Thank you.

"A new command I give you: Love one another, As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

Lord, on Good Friday, we are humbled and thankful for the completion of your physical life on earth as you suffered greatly, not only leaving your physical body, but bearing our sins for us too. The day before Easter. For the followers who were there, they didn't really understand how soon they would see you again, how their grieving would turn to joy. Such a roller coaster of emotions. For us, Lord, it's waiting for tomorrow to celebrate your first return. You have prepared a place for us and as we live this life on earth, not knowing when you will return, we endure our sorrows, rejoice in our joys and are thankful for your provisions and as we live, we wait.

Empty is what comes to mind on this Easter morning. Your followers' hearts were aching. The women wanted to honor your body and it was gone but you soon showed yourself to them and their broken hearts were healed and filled with joy.

Such joy.

An empty tomb, but so full. Full of completed promises, full of promises yet to be fulfilled, an empty tomb filled with compassion and love.

Such love.

An empty tomb promising us all the same, a future in eternity when life on earth is done.

 Hope for us.

Thank you, Lord for your life, miracles performed, and suffering endured on earth that provided a way for us to one day live eternally with you in paradise. Thank you for the empty tomb, the empty tomb that was so full.

We praise you; Christ the Lord is Risen Today!

Thank you, Lord for our trials. It is hard to be thankful for them while we are living through them, but with you, the struggles are a little easier and time and time again you have showed me that by living through hard times, we are able to help others when they are going through tough times. We can have compassion and understand others and their struggles just as you have helped us.

We tell our children there is no such thing as monsters Lord, but sadly there is bad in this world that we try to shield them from as long as we can. Sometimes we are quick to anger in instances such as road rage or when we are tired or when our buttons are pushed. We can often justify our anger in our own eyes. Lord, help us to slow down in our reactions. Help us to think about the situation before responding. Let us listen with our hearts for the reason someone or something has brought us to anger. Help us to respond with carefully chosen words, words not meant to harm or ignite more anger in others but words to peacefully mend the situation. "Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me." Help us to find healing words, if possible, or if absolutely necessary, walk away. Let me follow this verse and hear first, think before speaking (count to ten maybe) and to control my anger. You know my humor, Lord. It sounds like dance steps to me: quick, slow, slow; quick, slow, slow. May I recall these "dance steps" as needed throughout my days. Amen.

Lord when we play games with small children, they often don't play by the rules. They change the rules so they have a better chance of winning. It seems today that so many are playing the game of life that way. They are making up rules and looking for happiness in ways that can hurt others or even be harmful to themselves. I thank you for your rules and for those who respect how we are to live. Bless those who, in these times, remain faithful to your wise instructions. Amen.

"The law of the Lord is perfect, refreshing the soul. The statutes of the Lord are trustworthy, making wise the simple. The precepts of the Lord are right, giving joy to the heart. Dear God, I thank you for my grandmother who I didn't know, who passed away when I was three. I have two photographs of her with me and a Christmas card that is signed, "All My Love". Dear God, I thank you for all the animals you created. I read there are over 120 species mentioned in the Bible. Well, it's Sunday, Lord. Time to replace the batteries. They really wear down quickly during the week, don't they? What? Oh, yes, I know Lord that if I read the Bible daily or listened to Christian music or podcasts and all else that I have available, that the batteries could be recharged anytime. I always hear more birds in the morning than I can see. I thank you, Lord, for my phone ap that helps me identify them. I have the faith that they are there even though I can't see them. As I listen, they remind me of faith in so many ways. First, your verse about faith being the substance of things heard and not seen. (Hebrews 11:1) I hear all the beautiful songs and know the birds are there, even when I cannot see them. And when I do get a glimpse of a bird, I am so pleased and assured. I have seen your faith in action on earth and I thank you.
I am also reminded that those who have not seen and believe are blessed. (John 20:29). You promise us our faith will be rewarded.
Finally, I am reminded of how you provide for us and tell us not to worry (Matthew 6:26,27). Through your creatures, I find faith, belief, value and comfort. Thank you. Amen.

Today, Lord I thank you for the children. You mention them many times in the Bible, always lovingly. You have told us that they are a heritage, and that we are to teach them, not to exasperate or embitter them and that they are a crown for grandparents. Even in the midst of your preaching, you took time for the little ones. I pray for the innocents who are in danger or living with illnesses, poverty or without love and for those who have not been taught about you. Help us to love the children and to help them when we can. Thank you for the example of love they give us.

"When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them."

Thank you, Lord for the video I watched as a woman taught us how to interact with a person with dementia. The person with dementia was going to walk to some place hundreds of miles away. Instead of correcting her or telling her that she was crazy or that it was not possible, she asked if she could come too. The response was positive. Then she asked the woman, "How about we go back inside and get our coats and maybe pack a snack to take with us." The older woman agreed and turned around and went with her back into the house.
This reminded me that we don't have to correct people or try to change them. We may not agree with their lifestyle or choices, but it's not up to us to change them. God changes lives. We can offer to help and walk alongside them in life as best as we can. Help me to continue to find ways to walk alongside those who need me.

Lord, when I listen to children and I hear, "Not fair!", I try not to rush in with "Life's not fair." They don't need me to tell them. They are learning about life the painful way. I was thinking your views on this and how "not fair" was the beginning of troubles in the Garden of Eden. First Adam and Eve were convinced that it wasn't fair they couldn't eat the fruit of the one tree. But you were the one who could have said it the loudest, "Not fair!" You gave them everything. Every living, breathing thing, everything they needed. You just asked that they leave one thing alone. Talk about, "not fair". To top it all off, what you had to do to fix things so one day you can give us everything again. When life isn't fair here, thank you for reminding me that you truly understand.

"I have seen something else under the sun; the race is not to the swift or the battle to the strong, nor does food come to the wise or wealth to the brilliant or favor to the learned; but time and chance happen to them all."

Thank you Lord for opportunities...opportunities to help others, Let my eyes be open always to recognize when I can help or encourage others. Give me the strength and willingness to help with a loving attitude.

Thank you, Lord for the comfort of belonging. We love our family and the blood that unites us together. We love those who are adopted into our family too and our church family. We may not all related by our blood but by the blood Jesus Christ we are family. Thank you.

I think, Lord, that you are probably pleased that man has designated today as Earth Day and we are reminded to be good stewards of your creation that you have given to us. Thank you for our earthly home and all its wonders.

As I get older, my vision is changing. I know my right eye is worse than my left and if I am not wearing glasses, I can cover up my right eye and just look out of my left and things are clearer. It me, Lord, when we look at the world with an eye of the world and an eye of you, things can be blurry. Help us to see truths as clearly as we can on earth but knowing one day, we will see and understand all.

"For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known."

Lord, you know me. I love to make lists. They keep me focused on tasks that need to be done and they help me to remember everything. The Bible is full of lists--not just the lineages, or the creation list (checked off by "it was good"), but other "lists" of how we should live our days. I think it would be a good idea to include in my "to do" lists, one like this from Colossians 1:9-12:

Seek wisdom and spiritual understanding.

Walk worthy of the Lord.

Be fruitful in every good work.

Increase in the knowledge of God.

Be strengthened through endurance and patience,

With joy give thanks to God for everything.

Lord, help me to complete my to do lists but also to daily be reminded of the lists that you provide for us in your word and help us to start each day being reminded of your list for me. Help me to be able to check off your list daily too, so I can say, "and it was good." Thank you.

"...that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding: that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God; strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longs suffering with joy; giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light."

You have me thinking more about lists today, Lord. Those long lists of "begats" go on and on sometimes and are often skipped. But imagine the thrill of being one of those listed in the genealogy list? It's like getting your name in the paper. Or like me, having a copy of my genealogy putting me as a descendant of John Alden and Priscilla Mullens who came over on the Mayflower. How nice to know your lineage. And yet, we ARE in the Bible. We are blood relatives through Jesus' blood which makes us adopted heirs. Thanks for mentioning us.

"So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise."

Today you pointed out to me, Lord, as I spoke to an insurance company, that there is a difference between insurance and assurance. Insurance provides protection against a possible loss over a certain period of time. Assurance provides coverage for a longer period of time, often until death. I am reminded of the words of one of my favorite hymns: "Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine, oh, what a foretaste of glory divine." You paid for our assurance policy that does not expire. We don't have monthly premiums to pay or have to worry if all our sins will be covered. Thank you for the assurance you give us.

"And we desire that every one of you do show the same diligence to the full assurance of hope to the end"
