#25

My prayer today,

Thank you for a change of plans.

Although I am not a fan of the snow you have given us today,

I am often thankful for a "snow day" when I can give up any obligations that I have.

Sometimes it's disappointing

And sometimes, like today, I am thankful for the excuse to be able to just stay home after years of traveling to work on days like this.

Help me to choose which home project to tackle that I have been putting off and and also, thank you for the chance to rest too.

Help us to take care clearing the snow and in our walking and driving when we resume our "outside" lives.

Amen

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."

I Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Amen

"Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; thought they are read like crimson, they will be like wool."

(Isaiah 1:18)

#27

Dear Lord,

As struggles come, as hard as they are and may even bring me to my knees, and sorrow sometimes fills my heart, my faith will not be weakened.

I know it's a broken world and troubles will come.

It is not always easy, but my faith tells me that you are always there to give me strength to get through it.

Thank you for this beautiful verse that reminds me that you will lift us up above the turmoil and troubles.

Thank you for the encouragement and daily strength.

Amen

"But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint."

May your Word be preached and heard with hearts and minds. May your house be a place of acceptance and non-judgement. May everyone recognize we are family.

I also pray for the families who bring their children in their busy schedules. Touch the little ears and hearts that they may learn and grow and be equipped to face their troubles in the world.

Dear Lord,

Today I pray for delivery:

Delivery from sins that tempt me in the wrong direction,

Delivery from pain,

Delivery from negative thoughts,

Delivery from anger,

Delivery from jealousy,

Delivery from gossip and whatever else comes from the tempter.

Deliver to me:

Your grace,

Meet my needs,

Provide my desires in accordance with your will,

Strength for today

Give me a cheerful heart.

Shine your light on me, so that I may be a reflection.

Thank you for meeting all my delivery needs asked for and the ones I missed that you know I need.

#32

Lord,

Help me today with the small things.

Don't let little things annoy me.

Don't let something small shirt my thoughts to anger or impatience.

Let me see the big picture of how unimportant some things are.

Also help me to appreciate all the good small things

From a flower blossoming, to a child's laughter

To all the little things that brighten our day, that we forget to thank you for or

take for granted.

If we tried to thank you for all the little things, the list would be too long to

complete, but help me to be more mindful of our many blessings.

Thank you for small things.

Amen

"Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet they are turned about with a very small helm..."

#34

Dear Lord,

Please focus my thoughts on today

Don't let me worry about tomorrow

Or let future concerns weigh me down.

Know that you will be there to help me through today

And all the tomorrows too.

Me, with you, We got this!

Thank you, Lord.

Amen

#35

Today, Lord, may I love others.

It is easy to love those who touch my heart,

(and I am so very thankful for them),

But help me to love those who are, in my mind, less loveable.

I might need baby steps to be able to tolerate some with kindness first.

Help me to remember that my neighbors, whom I am called to love are:

The store employees,

Co-workers,

Repairmen,

Those who live physically next door,

ALL of those who attend my church or other activities,

The people in the other cars,

The people I pass on the street or in the stores,

The people who do things that annoy me,

Or even those who hurt me,

And everyone else.

Remind me that you created all and despite their trespasses or lifestyle,

You love them in their brokenness or what I perceive as broken.

Help me not to judge and to see them as you do.

Remind me that because you love us all, you ask us all to love one another.

I imagine this is your greatest desire with us foolish people.

Help us to remember what we do unto the least of them, is as if we did it unto you.

And just maybe,

Just maybe, that love I show to them,

Will be the love they need to be kinder and to know your love and to share it in their lives too.

Today help me to show my love to you in this way.

Thank you for the opportunities that will come my way today.

Amen

"The second is this, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these."

Mark 21:31

#36

Dear Lord,

As the sun sets on another day,

Thank you for:

Meeting my daily needs,

Guiding my steps,

Keeping me safe,

And teaching me, so that I may grow.

Help me to take from tomorrow, what I need from today.

Help me to leave behind any regrets or mistakes.

Let me rest well knowing that all is in your hands always.

Amen

"From the rising of the sun to its setting,

The name of the Lord is to be praised."

Psalm 113:3

#37

Dear Lord,

You know how much in awe I am of your creations.

I always stop to enjoy a rainbow.

When we stay somewhere, I long for a room with a view:

The vast blue ocean or your majestic mountains

Or a garden of beautiful flowers.

All can take my breath away.

I try to capture these moments with my camera so I can savor them again and again, although they are not quite the same.

But one day I won't be waiting for these moments.

Heaven will have a view beyond what we can imagine.

Thank you for the rooms you have prepared for us. I am sure they have an awesome view.

But in the meantime, thank you for your glorious earth and the refreshing views that restore my soul.

Amen

"In my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?"

John 14:2

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

#38

Dear Lord,

Thank you for providing different ways for us to get where we need to be,

Whether walking or biking or driving or riding in a bus or train or flying in a plane,

Swimming or boating or whatever way that you provide,

We get to where we are meant to be.

Sometimes we get frustrated at delays and detours,

But it's all in your perfect plan, your perfect timing.

Help me to know how and where you want me to go,

Thank you for those I meet on my journey.

Direct my paths today and every day even when I forget to ask,

I'm trusting in you, my traveling companion. Let's go!

Amen

"Trust in the Lord with all you heart, lean not on your own
understanding, in all your ways acknowledge him and he shall direct your paths."

Proverbs 3:5-6

#39

Another day,

An empty box.

Help me, Lord, not to refill it with yesterday's worries.

Let me leave behind any anger or regrets.

Let me take the beautiful memories and

To remember to take lessons learned.

Help me to fill the box with your memorized words,

Songs of praise and love for others.

Please let my box overflow

And the treasures to spill out to share with others.

Thank you for new starts every day.

Amen

"For where treasure is, there will your heart be also."

Matthew 6:21

Thank you, Lord for creating us each so differently.

Thank you for the individual talents you have given each of us.

Help me to use mine as you would want me to

Give me the opportunities today and every day.

Thank you for others and their talents and how together

We make a beautiful patchwork quilt all for your glory.

Amen

Ephesians 2:10

#41

Dear Lord,

I thank you for the many years you have given me here on earth.

There have been many heartaches and trials and bleak times that were a struggle to go on,

But the blessings, Lord...you know how much I love the family you have blessed us with.

The best part about growing old, is seeing your own children grow and prosper and know you.

But even greater than that is the blessing of grandchildren, the special bond and joys that fill our hearts.

I think of the joy my parents felt being grandparents and am glad they had that opportunity which I didn't understand the true depth of until I became one.

Thank you, God, for our family. I am thankful every day.

I also pray, Lord, for those who have outlived or have been separated from their family.

Please give them other purposes in life and give them joy and peace and comfort them.

Help them to find the love of your family with them here on earth.

Amen

"Grandchildren are the crowning glory of the aged; --parents are the pride of their children."

Proverbs 17:6

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

#42

I thank you, Lord, that if we come to you with our requests and in thanksgiving, even in the darkest times, we can receive the peace that transcends all understanding. You know our needs. May your calming spirit be with us like the waves of the ocean gently soothing our troubled hearts.
Please give us peace, even when our minds have trouble comprehending the "whys".
And give us peace, not only in our souls, but with one another for you are the God of peace in this troubled world.

"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God that transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Jesus Christ."

#43

Dear Lord,

There are so many facing troubles today. I pray you will help them to feel lifted up by your presence. Give them the courage to face today and hope for tomorrow. Help their hearts to be stilled and to feel you and to be encouraged by your faithfulness. We don't know what tomorrow will bring but with you, we will see it through. I love that your word tells you are "ever-present" or "very present"--you always are, right now and forever. For now, give us strength for today.

"God is our refuge and our strength, a very present help in trouble."

Psalm 46:1

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

#44

Dear Lord,

I am constantly in awe of your creations--all the littlest details of how things work from the ants who can carry things many times their weight and communicate with each other, to the workings of our own bodies with its 78 organs, over 200 bones and all fitting together in your perfect order and each with its purpose. Thank you that I continue to learn about your world (thank you for the internet), which all proves to me over and over that we were created by a divine Creator. Thank you for your perfect and amazing designs.

Amen

"For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or powers, or rulers or authorities; all things were created by him and for him."

Colossians 1:16

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

#45

Thank you, Lord for my citizenship. Help me to remember that I belong to your kingdom and as a member, I need to continue following the rules established by you. Like studying for citizenship in our earthly country, give me the desire and willingness to learn more and more about you in the Bible, which not only gives us history but also the future. Thank you for providing a home church on earth that not only teaches about citizenship but comes along side us and provides us with the fellowship of believers, co-heirs to your kingdom. Thank you for a safe place to worship on the Sabbath.

Amen

"But our citizenship is in heaven, and we eagerly await a savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ."

Through troubles and difficulties, may my loved ones find the joy that Sara received from you. Today I pray for them to feel loved, find laughter and to share them both with others.

Amen

"And Sarah said God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me."

Genesis 21:6

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

#47

Lord, I love these words from you today. You are with us in every step, even ones we don't think about. When we mess up and trip, you are holding our hand. We hold our children's hands when we cross a street or in a busy crowd to protect them. Life is full of obstacles and hazards for us. As a parent for our children, we can't hold their hands forever, but you never let go. Don't let me take for granted your protection and guidance for me and my loved ones. Thank you.

Amen

"The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives. Though they stumble, they will never fall, for the Lord holds them by the hand."

Psalm 37:23,24

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

#48

Dear Lord,

Today I pray for those who are searching for something and easily led astray. There are many in this world today tempting others with promises of delivering messages from the dead. I pray people are led away from such things that Satan delights in. We, as believers, are clearly told in your word to avoid such things. May people searching find the comfort that knowing you brings. Give us discernment of all false prophets in many disguises in this world today.

Amen

"Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. You shall know them by their fruit."

Matthew 7:15

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

#49

Dear Lord,

As we grow older, more aches and pains invade our bodies and our hearts. Growing old is a blessing for the time spent with loved ones and our opportunities to show love to one another, yet, the older we get, the more heart aches we experience and our aging bodies experience pain too. Thank you for our daily strength but also thank you that we know it is temporary and an eternity awaits us without pain and sorrow.

Amen

"My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever."

Psalm 73:26

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

#50

Dear Lord,

Throughout my day, remind me that my actions reflect my beliefs. As the song goes, "They will know we are Christians by our love", may my deeds be a display of your love.

You gave up your life for us, so we don't have to do good works or live by the law to have our eternal destiny with you but let me have the living faith you want me to have.

Amen

"For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also."

James 2:26

"All My Love"

This treasure is the only card I have from my Mom's mother, the grandmother who I never knew. She passed away when I was 3. I have two pictures of her and me taken at Christmas and I don't know if those might even be the last ones taken of her--almost exactly a year before she died of tuberculosis.

I have absolutely no recollection of her, I am sad to say. I am also sad that my mother did not share more about her, but I think it just hurt her too much for so long to lose her so young and now I can understand that a little better.

I say I never knew her, but she knew me. I am quite a sentimental person and I actually shed a few tears as I found this card that she had inscribed, "All my love and a great Big Kiss, Grandmother." "All my love" is a strong statement. I was her only grandchild and now I know what a blessing grandchildren can be. I am glad that God gave me to her for a brief time to brighten her life. I know the feelings my mother must have felt about all the things my grandmother was going to miss out on in my life, watching me grow and for me, to grow to love her, though, I am sure I did. I know those unspoken hurts lived with my mother for a long time. I, only now, can really understand that pain my mother must have felt missing her mom and thinking about all she missed out on. I think about my grandchildren and hope my love for them will be evident in my photos should memories fade.

These cards remind me of God. He knows me, he loves me, but I don't know him as well as he knows me. Fortunately for me, God has left us books of the Bible to get to know him better and letters written by his followers. I don't have as many documents about my grandmother. I would love some letters written by her, but I only have this card, but really, what more do I need than a card that says, "all my love" with a big kiss added? Those few words say so much. I was loved and I hope my 2-year-old-self hugged her and kissed her back.

God has proved his love through our wonderful blessings here on earth and sending Jesus so we can live eternally in heaven. I guess God's Bible is one big card with a lot more words but I'm sure it could be signed like this card, "All my love.".

A Lesson from a Child and Cotton Candy

There's a new pebble on our beach. Well, she's actually been here for a couple of years, but her shape and colors are starting to show. Our newest granddaughter is fearless and at times I laugh at her antics like going all in, headfirst into a ball of cotton candy, and other times I cringe in fear as she leaps from a chair--I have a fear, the fear that she does not have.

I think she may think that she has wings and can actually fly when she fearlessly jumps off of things. She dives into everything headfirst--whether it be trying to keep up with older kids with whatever they are doing or even eating cotton candy--no concern of getting sticky. She just lives life! She knows what she wants, and she just goes for it.

Was I ever that way? I'm not sure, but I know if I was, that life experiences taught me to be cautious and wary. It's a good thing and helps avoid stitches and sticky things. I, for one, don't like to get dirty or sticky and that may be our difference. But if I were more like Zion, how much more could I accomplish? We let fear sometimes take control. We think about just how sticky we will get putting our whole face full in the cotton candy, and we weigh the pros and cons. Yes, wisdom comes with age on the neatest way to enjoy the sugary treat but imagine being able to live life with pure abandonment.

I think God wants us to have the "go for it!" attitude in our walk. So often we let what others may think control our actions. I don't want to be unliked for my words or actions. I don't want people to judge me. I can easily conform to the crowd. Yet, God is the final judge. Whom should, I fear? Why am I afraid to stand up for my beliefs? Why can't I share with everyone the importance of God in my life? Why? Because life is sticky, and I have learned going headfirst into cotton candy has its consequences. Evangelizing can lead to criticism or even being made to look like a fool.

I think what I have learned is a balance. Unless you eat cotton candy with a spoon or maybe chopsticks (?) it's going to be sticky. There is no neat way to eat it. I have learned tearing off a piece with my fingers, gets only my fingers sticky and I can lick them clean. (I tried to show my granddaughter this and she thought I was stealing a piece from her, and she got very upset.)

We can try and show others Jesus's love little by little, piece by piece by how we live our lives and why we believe what we believe. But there are times when situations may be appropriate to dive in headfirst, in times of trouble and danger. I love the scene in "Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade" when he realizes the only way across the deep chasm is to step out in faith and the bridge magically appears when he takes the first step. We may need to put aside our fears. Just share the truth about Jesus with a dying friend or a friend being swallowed by life's sorrows. We are in this sticky life together. God give us wisdom when to dive in headfirst and take that step out in faith and when to share little by little. Thank you, Jesus, for lessons from children.

Layers of Life

When I saw this, I thought that this is like life--it comes in layers, layers of brightness and happiness, dark times, good times all layered upon each other making our pattern of life. If we could see the ripples of our life, I think this is how it could look. I thought this was beautiful and although we don't like it, we have to take the good and the bad and look at the beauty and good in the whole picture. In the end, it makes a beautiful life.

When God is not carrying us

Just a short reflection--

I was thinking of the footprints picture when God carries the person through the rough times. This morning it came to mind that in our daily walk, when we don't need to be carried, that Jesus is the staff or walking stick that we lean on. He provides what is needed to see us through the tough and unfamiliar terrain. The staff can protect us from dangers, stable us when we are unsteady and provide us something to lean on when we need to rest. Always have your walking stick by your side..
